Axis Mutual Fund started operations in 2009 and is sponsored by Axis Bank. Over the years, it has built a broad product range of 97 schemes covering equity, debt, hybrid, index funds, ETFs, and fund of funds. They have a huge passive fund lineup, giving you options beyond actively managed schemes.

Data as of 31 August, 2026.
Axis MF follows a quality-focused, bottom-up approach to equity investing. Its fund managers study individual companies rather than only making decisions based on the overall market. The AMC’s philosophy also includes active management, sustainable growth, research and risk management.
The fund manager structure is another highlight. R Sivakumar is the CIO, while Shreyash Devalkar heads equity and Devang Shah heads fixed income. The wider team also has dedicated managers for passive equity, overseas securities, commodities and debt portfolio.
Axis also has some less conventional strategies. For example, Axis Quant Fund combines a quantitative model with the AMC’s fundamental research. It looks at factors such as quality, growth and valuation.
Another important highlight is that Axis Nifty 50 ETF has a 0.03% annualised tracking error as of August 31, 2026. This shows how closely the ETF has followed its benchmark.
Axis MF offers a fairly broad mix of active and passive products to choose from. The AMC’s August factsheet has listed 97 schemes, which are classified category-wise below:
| Category | Number of schemes |
|---|---|
| Active equity schemes | 17 |
| Equity index funds | 17 |
| Equity ETFs | 8 |
| Equity FoFs | 5 |
| Active debt schemes | 23 |
| Debt index funds/ETFs | 9 |
| Hybrid schemes | 12 |
| Gold, silver and other multi-asset products | 6 |
| Total | 97 |
Whether you’re looking for actively managed or passive funds, you’ll find a wide range of options. There is also a good spread within equity. You can find broad-market funds as well as focused options such as manufacturing, consumption, business cycles, momentum, healthcare, IT and defence-oriented products.
Mutual funds work through a regulated structure. Your money is collected along with other investors and invested according to the scheme’s stated objective. The AMC manages the investments, while the trustee oversees the AMC and checks that the fund is being managed in the interest of the investors. A separate custodian holds all the securities and assets of the schemes.
Axis Mutual Fund is registered with SEBI. So the whole process is regulated under its framework. However, this does not mean that SEBI or Axis Bank guarantees your returns. Mutual funds are market-linked products, so the value of your investment can rise or fall. Always check the scheme’s risk level, objective and portfolio before investing.
Past returns tell you how a particular fund has performed against its peers over different periods. To help you assess the Axis Mutual Fund’s track record, here’s a list of schemes that have beaten their respective category’s 3-year and 5-year averages.

Rather than chasing the top Axis mutual funds, start by figuring out your own requirements, such as:
Once you know these things, you can choose the fund category that fits your needs. Then compare the top Axis mutual funds within that category.
You can invest in Axis SIP plans or lump sum investments on Millions in just a few taps. Download the Millions app from the Google Play Store or the iOS App Store, create a free account and complete your KYC. Then simply follow these steps:
That’s all! Your SIP is set. Note that the minimum investment can vary from one scheme to another. Most Axis mutual fund schemes start at ₹100 for lump sum and SIP, while some may have higher minimums. For instance, Axis Large Cap Fund Direct Growth has a ₹100 minimum for both. Always check the ‘Scheme Snapshot’ for the exact fund before investing.
If you’re planning a regular investment, the SIP Calculator can help you estimate how your money may grow based on your SIP amount, time period and expected return. Keep in mind that the result is only an estimate.
You can prefer Direct Plans as they generally have a lower expense ratio because of no distributor commission. However, cost isn’t the only factor you should consider. Look at the fund’s objective, portfolio and risk as well.
