Unlike fund houses with schemes spread across equity, debt and hybrid categories, Taurus currently has a relatively focused range of eight equity-oriented schemes. These include diversified funds such as Taurus Flexi Cap Fund; market-cap-specific schemes such as Taurus Large Cap Fund and Taurus Mid Cap Fund; and more specialised offerings such as Taurus Infrastructure Fund and Taurus Banking & Financial Services Fund.
Its investment range also includes strategies designed for specific requirements. Taurus Ethical Fund follows Shariah principles while selecting investments and uses the BSE 500 Shariah TRI as its benchmark. Taurus Nifty50 Index Fund, on the other hand, follows a passive approach and seeks to replicate the Nifty 50 by investing predominantly in securities that form the index.
The investment team is led by CIO Kanishk Kapur. Individual schemes are managed by their respective fund managers under their investment mandates, so fund manager, portfolio strategy, and investment process are key factors to consider when comparing Taurus schemes.
| Category | Number of schemes |

The current lineup comprises Taurus Large Cap Fund, Taurus ELSS Tax Saver Fund, Taurus Infrastructure Fund, Taurus Banking & Financial Services Fund, Taurus Flexi Cap Fund, Taurus Mid Cap Fund, Taurus Ethical Fund and Taurus Nifty50 Index Fund.
Taurus Large Cap Fund primarily invests in large cap companies. Taurus Mid Cap Fund focuses predominantly on mid cap stocks, while Taurus Flexi Cap Fund gives the fund manager greater flexibility to invest across large, mid and small cap companies.
The Infrastructure and Banking & Financial Services funds take more concentrated approaches. Their performance can therefore be more strongly influenced by developments affecting the specific sectors or themes they invest in.
Taurus Nifty50 Index Fund follows a passive strategy. Its objective is to replicate the Nifty 50 by investing mainly in the securities that make up the index, rather than relying on active stock selection to outperform it.
Taurus ELSS Tax Saver Fund is an equity-linked savings scheme. Investments in ELSS carry a mandatory three-year lock-in from the date of investment.
This variety means investors should first identify the category that suits their requirements. Comparing a sectoral fund with a diversified flexi-cap fund based solely on recent returns overlooks the very different roles and risks of the two strategies.
These entities have separate responsibilities for the mutual fund’s operations and oversight. However, regulation does not eliminate market risk.
Taurus’s current schemes carry a Very High Risk classification. This matters because the current range is equity-oriented and includes mid-cap, sectoral, and thematic strategies that can experience substantial market fluctuations.
Risk can also differ even when two schemes carry the same Riskometer classification. A diversified flexi cap fund can spread its portfolio across market capitalisations, whereas a banking or infrastructure fund is more concentrated in a particular part of the economy.
An index fund removes the need for active stock selection but does not remove equity-market risk. If the underlying index declines, the fund’s NAV can decline as well.
Always check the latest Riskometer of the individual scheme before investing because risk classifications can change over time.

5-year returns vs category comparison
| Category | Scheme Name | 5-Year Category Average | 5-Year Scheme Return |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equity: Large Cap | Taurus Large Cap Fund | 7.47% | 10.89% |
| Equity: Flexi Cap | Taurus Flexi Cap Fund | 8.69% | 10.75% |
| Equity: Mid Cap | Taurus Mid Cap Fund | 12.91% | 13.33% |
| Equity: Thematic – Infrastructure | Taurus Infrastructure Fund | 15.50% | 11.29% |
The numbers show that Taurus has enough history for investors to examine how individual schemes have performed over meaningful periods. They should not, however, be used to rank unlike categories against one another.
For example, a mid cap fund and a large cap fund operate with different investment universes and risk profiles. Similarly, an infrastructure fund is more concentrated than a diversified flexi cap strategy.
When comparing the top Taurus mutual funds, use performance alongside the scheme’s benchmark, portfolio composition, costs, investment strategy, and risk. For an index fund, tracking difference and tracking error are also useful measures because the scheme aims to follow an index rather than beat it through active management.
You must note that past performance may or may not continue in the future. Therefore, use it as one part of your research rather than a guarantee of future returns.
After narrowing down the category, examine the actual portfolio. Check its major holdings, sector exposure, benchmark, expense ratio, exit load, and fund manager.
For Taurus Nifty50 Index Fund, also look at tracking error and tracking difference. These help show how closely the fund has followed the index it is designed to replicate.
Several Taurus schemes currently allow initial investments starting at Rs. 500. Still, check the minimum purchase and SIP requirements for the individual scheme before investing, as transaction conditions can differ.
For example, Taurus ELSS Tax Saver Fund states a minimum purchase amount of Rs. 500, with subsequent investments in the applicable multiples. Its investments are also subject to the three-year ELSS lock-in.
If you are considering one of the Taurus SIP plans, the SIP calculator in the Tools section can help you test different combinations of monthly investment, time and assumed return.
Suppose you plan to invest Rs. 8,000 every month for 10 years. Enter these figures along with an assumed rate of return to see an estimated future value. The result is only an illustration; mutual fund returns are market-linked and will not follow a fixed rate every year.
You can also compare Direct and Regular Plans. Both invest according to the same scheme mandate, but Direct Plans do not include distributor commission and generally have a lower expense ratio than the corresponding Regular Plan.
Before investing, compare the fund with both its category peers and the investments you already own. A scheme is useful when it fills a genuine role in your portfolio, not simply because it adds another fund name.
